Milwaukee Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty is full of confidence ahead of tomorrow’s opening WorldSBK race after going under the existing lap record with little effort in free practice today.
The Irishman set a 1’30.746 in the third session which was two tenths under Chaz Davies’ lap record set in 2014 and a second quicker than Laverty went in free practice three last year.
“Even this morning in the wet the bike felt fantasic to ride, so it was nice to tick that box and then in the dry we went out and within a few laps we were under the lap record. The bike felt incredible so I am feeling really confident,” said Laverty, speaking at the track.
“Now we have to decide which of the two options of rear tyre and I think the grid will be split half and half, so we have to be smart, analyse the data over race distance. We want a dry race to see where we are but a wet race always will throw a spanner in the works.”
