Goeleven Ducati's Eugene Laverty ended his first day of the 2019 WorldSBK season only a second off the pace at Phillip Island and is pleased with his laptime consistency.
Laverty, who has a satellite Panigale V4, was only 0.069s behind works rider Chaz Davies after two sessions in Australia but cut his gap to the leader by three quarters of a second in free practice two.
"The most important thing is that we are continuing to improve. During the second practice we improved the turning of the bike through the faster corners and this was an important step forward. Our pace is very consistent and this is particularly important during the second half of the race at Phillip Island," said the Irishman.
Laverty was able to put in consistent, low 1'31s laps in session two which is impressive given he has had much less track time than his works counterparts and is on different suspension to everyone else which means he is unable to share any data.
