Aprilia's Max Biaggi has set the fastest time at Phillip Island's World Superbike tests and was in sniffing distance of Troy Bayliss's quickest race lap from 2008.
The Roman Emperor brushed off a crash yesterday to stay ahead of the field, which included Brits Leon Haslam and Tommy Hill, but was only a tenth faster than team-mate Shinya Nakano.
"These three days have been very profitable," said Biaggi. "We completed every test possible with all the material available, in every condition and we know exactly the problems we are facing.
"Now is the time to make some important modifications, obviously not for the next race because that's impossible, but shortly after."
The biggest surprise to come out of the two-day test session (or three days if you're on an Aprilia) was Broc Parkes on the Paul Bird Kawasaki. The Aussie was fourth quickest and just under half-a-second slower than Biaggi.
