Xerox Ducati's Michel Fabrizio has set the fastest time during the final day's World Superbike testing at Phillip Island with team-mate Noriyuki Haga in second despite a crash. (Click here).
The youngster from Rome improved his lap time and managed to drop down to 1'32.19 with Haga just behind on 1'32.30 and Yamaha's WSB rookie Ben Spies in third, just six one-hundredths further adrift. Fabrizio's time was just three-tenths slower than Troy Corser's WSB lap record.
“We have worked mainly on getting up to race pace today and it’s gone pretty well. In the late morning I completed a long-run with lap times that were similar to those I recorded during last year’s race here so I was pleased with that. It’s all looking good for next weekend and I’m feeling quietly confident," said Fabrizio.
Britain's Tom Sykes crashed during the second day but was unhurt, posting eighth fastest time while Ten Kate Honda's Jonathan Rea was one place ahead. Yesterday's fastest man, Alstare Suzuki's Max Neukirchner, wasn't able to go any quicker today, ending up in fourth with team-mate Yukio Kagayama fifth.
Corser is making some serious headway with the brand new BMW S1000RR, posting a 1'32.93s laptime to be sixth fastest. Team-mate Ruben Xaus was ninth. Carlos Checa wasn't on track as he has not yet recovered from his fall yesterday.
