Phillip Island WSBK: Laverty focuses on tyre selection

Voltcom Suzuki’s Eugene Laverty has said he needs to focus on tyre selection in the remaining World Superbike practice session at Pirelli have brought a new allocation which he needs to get through before race day.

There are now two rear medium-soft development solutions, the S1633 and the S1635, which are distinguished by having two different profiles. The S1633 is based on the reference from Phillip Island 2013, designed with different inner structure and materials to maintain the operating temperature when particularly cold, the S1635 has a bigger profile designed to distribute the stresses and pressures and thus offer an improved footprint

“The weather turned on us a little bit today so we lost one practice session, but it was the same for everybody. The second practice we tried a different tyre and got some work done because we have got a lot of rear tyres to try and evaluate. We will have a study of the data collected and make a plan for tomorrow but everything is so far is going to plan,” said Laverty, who finished today in sixth place and three-tenths behind team-mate Alex Lowes.
