Yakhnich Yamaha rider Sam Lowes was the fastest World Supersport rider today, after he topped both the free practice and qualifying first sessions. Current World Supersport champion Kenan Sofuoglu could only manage second once again on his Mahi Kawasaki.
Brit Lowes was a second faster than the Turk and set a time of 1’32.545 with Sofuoglu completing the session with a time of 1'33.664, meaning Lowes bags a provisional pole in the process - useful if it rains tomorrow.
“I am glad to improve my times on this bike. We made some changes to the settings and here I am at the front. I know that I didn’t have to make the most of the bike but it turned out to be fast. I think I can quicken few tenths for one fast lap," said Lowes.
There was not a single red flag for the second middleweight session of the day, compared to the crash-fest which saw five stoppages in just over half an hour in the free practice session a few hours before. The only incidents were crashes from PTR Honda rider David Linortner and SMS Racing's Balazs Nemeth.
The British riders also improved from their performances this morning. Scottish Kawasaki DMC rider Kev Coghlan finished the session in ninth compared to his 12th place finish in free practice. ParkinGo MV Agusta rider Christian Iddon was on the heels of Coghlan as he finished inside the top ten, and Irish Rivamoto rider Jack Kennedy managed to do a lap time of 1’34.143 meaning he finishes an amazing fifth.
