Yakhnich Yamaha rider Sam Lowes impressed once again in the World Supersport second free practice session, setting the quickest lap times for most of the period, meaning current World Supersport champion Kenan Sofuoglu had to settle for second spot on his Mahi Kawasaki.
Lowes dominated the session and clocked a 1’33.143s lap, slightly slower than yesterday, proving he is the one to beat so far Down Under. But the Turk was never too far away from the British rider and was less than three-tenths of a second behind Lowes with a a time of 1’33.335.
It was a successful outing for the Yakhnich Yamaha garage, as Lowes’ team-mate Russian rider Vladimir Leonov completed the session in fourth, just behind Pata Honda’s series rookie Michael Van Der Mark.
Scot and Kawasaki DMC rider Kev Coghlan continues to improve with a 1’34.476 which placed him just inside the top five, and improving from yesterday’s performances.
ParkinGo MV Agusta rider Christian Iddon only completed 14 laps of the Phillip Island course as he crashed at turn 11, with less than eight minutes of the session remaining, putting him eighth overall. Irish Rivamoto Honda rider Jack Kennedy ended in a none-to-shabby ninth.
