Yakhnich Yamaha rider Sam Lowes has claimed the coveted pole position for the first World Supersport race at Phillip Island this weekend. The Brit who has had an impressive start to his Supersport campaign once again topped the leader boards with his consistently fast lap times, and today was no exception with the Yamaha rider setting the fastest time of 1’32.545. Lowes was a second faster than Mahi Kawasaki’s Kenan Sofuoglu who once again had to settle for second with a lap time of 1’33.157.
It was a successful session for the Mahi Kawasaki camp as both riders claimed front row positions with Sofuoglu’s team-mate Frenchman Fabien Foret taking third with a time of 1’33.721.
Irish Rivamoto rider Jack Kennedy had a fantastic qualifying session and managed to push himself into the top five with a solid performance for his first World Supersport race, and he finished the course with a promising lap time of 1’33.896. The Brit riders were not far behind with Scottish Kawasaki DMC rider Kev Coghlan making it inside the top ten in ninth place.
ParkinGo MV Agusta rider Christian Iddon did not crash during this session unlike his first outing this morning, and in doing so did manage to finish with a respectable time and ended the day 13th overall.
