Phillip Island WSBK test: Lowes faster again on day two

Voltcom Suzuki’s Alex Lowes will head into this weekend’s curtain-raising World Superbike Championship round at Phillip Island with a fair bit of confidence after topping the combined test timesheets at the 4.445km seaside circuit.

Lowes, 24, stopped the clock in the first session with a 1’30.859, 0.021sec faster than fellow countryman Jonathan Rea.

Lowes said at the end of the day that he and his team had worked through a lot of different settings on the bike. “We have tried a lot of things that we wanted to try on the bike,” Lowes told bikesportnews.com” “This afternoon we did some longer runs, and everything is going quite well.”

Lowes does admit that he has found a setting he is happy with, but there will be a change if the temperature gets up. On top of that, the man from Lincoln wants to improve on his riding style as during the middle and last part of the track he feels that he is not riding as good as he wants.

When bikesportnews.com asked Lowes does going fastest on both days give him a boost of confident going into this weekend, he replied with; “Not really. I’ve been fast in test before, and it has never transformed into the race. What does me confidence is how well ‘we’ have worked as a team. We have made some good steps forward and some steps back which you do in testing.”

After having an indifferent in 2014, Lowes is not 100 per cent confident, but is slowly building it up. “I believe there is more to improve on me than the bike, so I’m looking forward to doing that this weekend. I’m just looking forward to kicking starting the season off with a decent start.”
