Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow finished top British rider at Phillip Island's World Supersport round after a photo-finish with Parkalgar Honda's Eugene Laverty.
The pair crossed the line within one one-thousandth of a second after what amounted to a race-long battle. Former champion Kenan Sofuoglu won the race with team-mate Andrew Pitt second and Stiggy Honda's Anthony West third.
Laverty got off to a poor start and ended the first lap in eighth from a fifth-placed grid slot. Crutchlow was fourth on the end of the first lap after team-mate Fabien Foret launched into the lead, depsite riding with a broken shoulder.
Crutchlow took the lead on lap three but ran wide at MG Corner and dropped to third. Kawasaki's Joan Lascorz was also in the mix as Laverty crept up into the top five and nicked third from Lascorz with 17 laps to go.
Two laps later, Laverty lifted up Crutchlow at Honda Corner to take second and hit the front a lap later. The Irishman remained at the top and battled with Pitt and and West until, on lap ten, Sofuoglu hit the front on the Gardner Straight after doing a stealth job on the field.
Crutchlow and Laverty then drifted off the top three and cracked on with their own battle. Laverty went past the Yamaha on the final lap but Crutchlow got the drive out of the final turn and claimed fourth.
