PHILLIP ISLAND WSS: FRONT ROW FOR CRUTCHLOW

Factory Yamaha World Supersport rider Cal Crutchlow has qualified on the outside of the front row for his debut race in the class tomorrow, narrowly holding off Eugene Laverty by a tenth of a second.

In what emerged as a fairly non-dramatic second qualifying session, Ten Kate Honda's Kenan Sofuoglu claimed pole with a 1'34.320, desposing Joan Lascorz with eight minutes left to go. The Spaniard managed to find more than one and a half seconds from his time yesterday.

Crutchlow started the session fast, putting in a 1'34.945 with 36 minutes left in the session and didn't better it until right until the end when he banged in a 1'34.875 to cement his front row.

Parkalgar Honda's Laverty made a cautious start and didn't make any real moves until there was only half an hour left, putting in a 1'35.581. The Irishman then got within two one-hundredths of Crutchlow with seven minutes to go before the former footballer went on his last run.

Sofuoglu has found more than half a second from yesterday and leads Lascorz by four-tenths, with team-mate Andrew Pitt in third, half a second adrift of the Turk. Laverty himself has improved by more than a second since yesterday.
