Reigning WorldSBK Champion Jonathan Rea spent time testing 2019-spec chassis at Portimao with a view on next season already.
Rea, who used a qualifier to post a time a second quicker than the field, had suspension units from Showa to test and also worked on chassis balance for the Portugese race here in a couple of weeks/
"It was nice to get reacquainted with the bike after my Suzuka duties and also the team too. It's been super-hot and yesterday we tried some items that took time to change so we didn't get so many laps but today we confirmed chassis stuff and then tested some tyres for Pirelli," said Rea, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Portimao.
"We tested some Showa stuff that we might not see till next season, and some idea for the fork and the shock to finish this season.
"We also worked on a chassis balance with a view to race setup here, getting some more stability on the brakes and turn in. The bike is working in a good window now. We only used two sets of tyres yesterday, and today we were fast in hot temperatures so that's positive."
