Britain’s Graeme Gowland will not get to compete in the season finale of the World Supersport Championship at the newly-built Portimao track this weekend as his Berry Racing Team have withdrawn from the event.
Gowland was only notified of the team’s decision at the last minute via an email from the team owner. This is a bitter blow for Gowland who has had a difficult last few rounds in the Championship but this round would have been a level playing field and Gowland was eager to show his true talent.
“I am really disappointed not to be racing at Portimao through no fault of my own especially as I was looking forward to this race as the Portimao circuit looks awesome and with it being a new track it would have been more of a level playing field and I feel I could have pushed for a good result. I had my flights and hotel booked and then I received an email from the team owner and manager Alessandro Berretti saying that the team wouldn’t be going to Portimao.”
The reigning Spanish Supersport Champion has yet to finalise his plans for the 2009 season.
