Ten Kate Honda's Gino Rea is looking to wrap up the European Superstock 600 title at Portimao this weekend as he heads into the Portugese round with a three-point advantage over Danilo Petrucci.
The young Londoner clinched his first win in the series at the Algarve circuit last year following a titanic last-lap struggle with Loris Baz but some of his main rivals tested there last week.
"After my last two second places at Imola and Magny-Cours, I took the championship lead by three points. Now the European Superstock 600 title has come down to one final race at Portimao, the closest it's been in years," said Rea.
"It's been a long three weeks waiting for this and I've physically prepared the best I could, I'm going to be giving it 110%. I think its going to be a bar- banging, exciting race.
"Last year the track time was equal for everyone due to it being a new circuit. Unfortunately this year my top six competitors tested there last week which puts us on the back foot a bit, so I hope we can get a good setup as soon as possible.
"To win the title I have to beat the Danilo Petrucci and have to finish right behind Vincent Lonbois. I' d like to finish off the year in style and as the champion, so I'm going to let it all hang out at Portimao! As for next year, we have had interest from factory-linked teams in World Supersport and British Superbikes."
