Jules Cluzel will start the World Supersport race at Portimao on pole after the Frenchman produced a magnificent lap to secure top spot ahead of championship leader Kenan Sofuoglu.
Cluzel’s 1’44.554 gives him prime position ahead of tomorrow’s race but Kenan Sofuolgu will be right up there along with him as his 1’44.826 saw him gain second place and a spot on the front row.
Completing the front row will be PJ Jacobsen, with the American in the 1’45s along with Kyle Smith who did an impressive job on the Pata Honda to start the race on the second row.
Smith’s 1’45.894 will give the Briton plenty of confidence that he can add to his two podiums secured already this season but he will find it hard with the quality of Cluzel, Jacobsen and Sofuoglu ahead of him.
Added to matters is the small fact that the Yorkshireman will line out on the second row along with countryman Gino Rea who secured fifth place with a 1’46.111.
The duo have had some superb tussles this season and the qualifying session at Portimao today means the race is likely to see another great ‘Battle of Britain’ for the final podium spot between Rea and Smith.
Lorenzo Zanetti, who sits fourth in the overall standings, will start tomorrow’s race from eighth place after posting a best lap of 1’46.480 during the session.
