Portimao WSBK: July deadline for Bimota final homologation

Bimota have until the end of this month to finalise their homologation for the BB3 World Superbike contender or the firm will not be allowed to race for the rest of the season.

Rules were altered at the start of this year to allow smaller manufacturers to produce a minimum of 125 units and Bimota must prove that has been done before the Jerez round if they are to continue in the championship.

“Before the Jerez race we will go there for an inspection as it is four months from the date of the first race. Laguna is the last race in the four-month window and if they have the required number of bikes, they are ok, if not, they will not be allowed to race,” said championship dorector Daniel Carrera, speaking at Portimao.

“They do not have to show complete bikes as some may have been sold, so they have to have the documentation to show this,” added series director Gregorio Lavilla.

“We will check all the material, orders and shipping manifests. If there are 60 in the room, then we need to see the documents for the other 65 as asking a small manufacturer to sit on 125 units is impossible,” concluded technical director Scott Smart.
