PTR Honda's Sam Lowes took provisional pole for the penultimate round of the World Supersport Championship at Portimao in Portugal today, fending off a challenge from team-mate Jules Cluzel with former champion Fabien Foret in third.
The Lincolnshire rider was two-tenths faster than the former Moto2 rider depsite encountering a couple of problems in the morning session which he has to work around. Fellow Brit Dan Linfoot put in his best performance of his season with seventh place.
"We had a few problems in the morning but worked round them for the qualifying. The track wasn't too fast today but we've made a good step with the bike and will keep working towards the race tomorrow. We have a few things to try in the morning and will work on our race pace but things are looking good. I'm enjoying the track and looking forward to the rest of the weekend," said Lowes.
