Voltcom Suzuki's Alex Lowes came away from the official Portimao World Superbike test with the fastest overall time at a track he hadn't seen before but said he was more pleased with his race run than he was to set the quickest time.

The reigning MCE British Superbike Champion, who switched to WSBK at the end of last year, was three-tenths faster than team-mate Eugene Laverty with his fastest effort coming at the end of a race simulation on a hard tyre.

"I was more pleased with my performance on the hard tyre in the race simulation. I set the quickest lap at the end of it and that, for me, was better than the laptime itself as I hadn't ridden the circuit before this week," said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com while being chauffered back to Faro airport by his manservant, Ramos.

"We have been taking small, positive steps with the electronic strategies, moving on a little further every day and it is working well. A lot of what I was doing was more centred around bike balance rather than the electronics, but I am new to those so we will continue that.

"Next is Phillip Island, and another track to learn, but that is going to be the challenge this year. I want to be able to learn places as fast as possible and I think Portimao was a good start."
