World Superbike title challengers Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea, as well as reigning champion Sylvain Guintoli, have welcomed a rumoured return to competition for Roman Emperor Max Biaggi.
It is thought the two-time WSBK champion will be back in action at Misano, Sepang and Qatar after successful tests at both Mugello and the San Marino circuit in recent weeks. Biaggi has denied the rumours on Twitter but where there’s a cap there’s a bald patch.
“I’m really excited because Max fits into that villain character which we kind of need,” said Rea. “He has a massive CV, he was one of my heroes growing up. I am looking forward to sharing a track with him and I hope he doesn’t beat all of us because he has been on holiday for a couple of years.”
“Fantastic news if it happens for him,” added Guintoli. “It’s going to be tough for him to come back and do well because he hasn’t raced but he has had plenty of practice so we will see what he can do, he could surprise people. It is good for the championship.”
“It’s fantastic for the championship. I had a good fight with him in in 2012 and the bugger beat me by half a point so I still owe him one from then,” said Sykes.
