Britain’s Alex Lowes has completed his first day of testing on the factory Pata Yamaha R1 World Superbike at Jerez and says that although he has only had a limited amount of laps due to wet weather this morning, he has already taken some positive initial steps.
Lowes, and team-mate Sylvain Guintoli, went out for their first pitlane exit on wets at the Spanish track this morning to get a feel for the R1 and then waited until the track was dry to put in a couple of runs. Lowes did 25 laps in total and says he is pleased with the work done.
“It was a positive first day overall. The bike is good and it has been good to start work, and begin to understand what we need to do. Today was just a toe in the water to be honest but I am happy,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.
“I feel comfortable on the bike but of course we won’t really know how it is until we give it the full berries when the lights go out at Phillip Island. The electronics are in their infancy as it was the first day with them but we made some positive first steps and that is wasn’t something that has been easy to do this year so I am pleased.”
