Ten Kate Honda’s Jonathan Rea was denied his first World Supersport race win by 0.014s this afternoon by team-mate Andrew Pitt in what can only be described as one of the best carnage class races for many years. Rea was leading through the last chicane and Pitt bounced off the Ulsterman’s CBR600 fairing to pip him over the line
Rea was involved in a race-long scrap with Pitt, Craig Jones, Josh Brookes and Joan Lascorz where the lead changed countless times and many brave moves were made and made to stick. At one point, eight men were challenging for the lead, with the two Brits at the front.
www.bikesportnews.com columnist Jones was there or thereabouts for the entire race, and lead twice after an amazing move with six laps to go which saw him go from fourth to first in one corner. However, the Northants-based rider lost momentum and ended up in ninth, with what looked like tyre problems.
Rea showed great maturity, dicing with his team-mate who ten years older and a former world champion and will now be aiming for the top spot next time out.
