Reigning WorldSBK king Jonathan Rea comprehensively outpaced former MotoGP star and current factory KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa at Aragon today despite a 20kph speed deficit.
Rea, on his production-based Kawasaki, put in a 1’49.547 compared to Pedrosa’s 1’49.921 on the all-dancing RC16. The Spaniard, who crashed with 30 minutes left to run, was only a gnat’s faster than Alex Lowes on the second KRT ZX-10R.
Lowes set a 1’49.929 to bag third place with the returning Toprak Razgatlioglu in fourth. The Yamaha man put in a 1’50.045 in among his 93 laps.
GoEleven Ducati’s Chaz Davies was fifth on a 1’50.234 which was enough to keep Mika Kallio, the second KTM tester, behind him.
BMW’s Tom Sykes put his M1000RR in seventh with a 1’50.654, one ahead of team-mate Michael van der Mark.
Eugene Laverty, on only his second day with his privateer BMW, was ne along and only two-tenths behind the Dutchman.
Andrea Locatelli put his works Yamaha in 11th, one ahead of Jonas Folger.
