Sepang WSBK: Chassis switch boosts Honda’s Hayden

Former MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden changed his standard Fireblade for a new but still stock version today at Sepang and immeditately found enough pace to bag second place on the overall World Superbike timesheets.

The American held top spot right until the dying seconds but was demoted to second by Lorenzo Savadori’s last flying lap. However, the American is confident in his race setup after an eight-lap run in the second session showed he has the same kind of pace as the series leaders for tomorrow’s opening race.

“Overall it has been a very positive day for us. We changed chassis, just another standard one, but maybe we had a little problem with the last one but as soon as I put it in this morning I had a lot better feel. We made a couple of changes as the day went on but all in the right direction and all credit to the team, they did a really good job,” said Hayden.

“It would have been nice to be fastest. It’s only Friday but it’s good to see your name at the top. We made a long run in the second session and the pace was good so we will have to see how much everybody improves tomorrow and what the track is like.”
