Althea Ducati's Carlos Checa has done the World Superbike double today at Silverstone, winning the second race in the same vein as the first with Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri repeating their podiums from race one.
Checa took the lead from Laverty, who once again got the holeshot, with 12 laps to go and didn't once look back, putting in fast consistent laps while the Alitalia Aprilia of Leon Camier sat in third place, gaining and losing time to the Irishman.
The trio made a break at the start with Melandri, wildcard John Hopkins and reigning champion Max Biaggi scrapping for fourth place but Camier couldn't live with the Yamaha and Ducati pace, slowly slipping back into the clutches of the fourth-place dice.
After Melandri and Hopkins initally slowed each other up and allowed Biaggi to close in, they upped the pace to catch Camier who looked to have run his rear tyre ragged by half distance. Biaggi went past Hopkins into the Loop with 11 to go but he was back past two laps later.
They went back and fourth until Melandri started to get away and Biaggi gave chase. The Italians caught Camier with four laps to go, Melandri going past first and then Biaggi went past the Englishman on the penultimate lap with a pass that looked slightly too easy.
Liberty Ducati's Sylvain Guintoli found some pace right at the death to pass Hopkins for sixth place while Leon Haslam collected some more good points for eighth. Michel Fabrizio was ninth with Ayrton Badovini rounding out the top ten.
James Toseland picked up some more points for his 13th place finish and second wildcard Jon Kirkham got another point for 15th. Alex Lowes pulled in after seven laps.
