DMC-Lorenzini rider Kev Coghlan is feeling a bit disappointed after getting so close to snatching his first World Supersport podium, but ended up falling foul on the last corner of the final lap to MAHI Racing’s Fabien Foret, who finished in third.
The Scottish rider was locked in a battle for the last half of the race at Silverstone with the Frenchman and fellow Brit ParkinGO MV’s Christian Iddon. Coghlan looked like he would win his first podium but a faultless last lap from the experienced Foret left the Perthshire lad finishing the race in fourth, with Iddon in hot pursuit.
Having had a taste of what it feels like to be racing at the sharp end and in podium contention Coghlan is now more determined than ever to win his first rostrum before the season comes to a close.
“It was mega, but I had a slow start and worked into it, and in the last laps I was trying to go as fast as I could. But Fabien Foret was always close by, and I was trying to get away from him but in the last two laps he crept up on me, and then I thought I would get the better of him on the last corner and I thought he would go wide, but he managed to hold it to go into third. But I am happy, because a few times I have been running strong and ended up throwing it down the track so it was good to get a finish again and the team have worked really well,” said Coghlan, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“I have mixed emotions because I came so close and then losing a podium on the last lap is a little disappointing, but to lose it to someone who has as much experience as Foret is good and it was a good battle.
“The Brit's are doing really well, and it is good to see Sam up there and Christian and Jack, and especially at a home race you want to put that little bit of extra into the performance. I just need to get a podium now and the guys said at the start of the year to build up and try and get a podium for the end of the year. That is still my aim and we are heading in the right direction.”
