Czech Ducati rider Jacob Smrz has sent a shockwave around the World Superbike paddock in Assen this morning, stealing provisional pole position away from Troy Bayliss and a resurgent Ruben Xaus.
The European Ducati man had been on the front row of yesterday’s first session and waited until the last 10 ten minutes of qualifying to shoot to the top of the table by three-onehundredths of a second from Xaus, who leads Bayliss by a further tenth of a second.
Bayliss’ team-mate Michel Fabrizio round out the front row with Max Neukirchner, Noriyuki Haga, Yukio Kagayama and Troy Corser making up the top eight.
