Sykes pragmatic over lost test time at Phillip Island

Kawasaki's Tom Sykes has taken a pragmatic approach to missing two days of testing at Phillip Island, saying his bike is ready to go and he will be ok to ride at the second Australian test next week.

The 2012 World Superbike runner-up crashed on day one of the test after just five laps and was taken to hospital after injuring his right wrist and is thought to have cracked his radius but the Huddersfield man says he will be fine for the next sessions.

"I hurt my left hand in a crash after less than ten laps of the circuit, so we decided to rest up afterwards so I can be ready for the official tests in a few days. I do not do much crashing but I got caught out and these things happen in racing," said Sykes.

"Now we just have to react in the best way to be ready for the next test and then the race. There is no point pushing it because my first flying lap at Phillip Island was nearly into the 1’34s, so I have confidence with my feeling on the bike.

"We have a test next week and between Kawasaki and the boys in the team, plus all our technical sponsors, we have made massive progress over the winter, so the bike is ready to go. All we missed out on so far are a few extra laps.”
