Thailand WSBK: Top-speed deficit ‘hurting us a lot’ - Davies

Aruba Ducati’s Chaz Davies ended the first World Superbike outing at Buriram today in fourth place and said it was the best they could have hoped for given the top-speed deficit at the Thailand track which added to rear grip problems.

Davies is some seven miles per hour slower than the top speed of Jonathan Rea’s works Kawasaki and with the Chang track having two long straights, Davies says his top-five finished is all he could have done.

“It was a tough race and the best we could have done today. I didn’t have the pace to do any better than that and I was lucky to hold off Davide until he crashed. The issue, firstly, was the rear tyre which dropped my pace quite a lot. It got really slick after six or seven laps, and then got worse until the end of the race,” said Davies, speaking at the track.

“I tried to maintain my pace but it started dropping a lot at the end. A difficult thing for us is speed, it’s a horsepower-dependant track and it’s hurting us a lot in the first part of the circuit.”
