Honda Racing’s Nicky Hayden believes this weekend’s Thailand World Superbike round at Buriram will be an indicator of his potential for the rest of the season as he goes into the first track on the calendar he has never seen before.
The former MotoGP World Champion had a good weekend at Phillip Island with a fourth place in race two but says it was not a good marker as he knows the track very well, there was testing and Pirelli provided special tyres for the weekend.
“I’ve done a couple of laps on a pushbike. The track looks nice, nothing too crazy but when you’re on a motorcycle everything looks different. There are a few tricky little corners to understand so I will go back out this afternoon but we will see tomorrow morning,” said Hayden, speaking at Buriram.
“I am anxious to get started and see what’s going on. I think here will tell us more about our potential for the year. Phillip Island is a little unique because you have special tyres, we had a test before, it was a track I know. Here will be more what I can expect from World Superbike - coming to a track I don’t know, practice Friday, race on Saturday.”
