"It wasn’t my day today, as it started to rain just before I could head out for my first-ever session..."
World Superbike rookie, Zaqhwan Zaidi, is in for a massive challenge throughout the 2025 season.
The Malaysian rider was announced as a Petronas MIE Racing Honda rider on the 10th of January. However, it was not until the 18th of February that Zaidi was able to ride his new machine.
The 29-year-old missed the Jerez and Portimao Test due to visa issues, he then also missed the opening day of the Phillip Island Test due to the same issues.
Zaidi was able to get some testing in during the second day of the Phillip Island Test. However, he managed to complete one lap before he crashed in the adverse conditions.
"It wasn’t my day today, as it started to rain just before I could head out for my first-ever session," Zaidi said.
"I went out on track but didn’t have a chance to complete more than one lap. I think this track is unique and so I need more time to understand and interpret it.
"I know I have a lot to learn, so my aim is to use this weekend to begin getting to grips with the bike, adapt to this circuit, and also learn from the other riders, who are all very competitive.
"I’m looking forward to getting started for real on Friday."
Zaidi will most likely struggle to reach the 105% qualification hurdle throughout the race weekend.
