Tom Booth-Amos offered hints that both he and the factory-backed Triumph team can be a force to be reckoned with during the 2024 WorldSSP Championship as he posted solid top ten times during pre-season testing at Phillip Island.
The Briton - a former Moto3 rider - dovetailed his time in British Supersport with a stint in the WorldSSP Championship participating in the European-only WorldSSP Challenge which he won last year.
For 2024, Booth-Amos makes the step into WorldSSP full-time heading up the Performance Technical Racing (PTR) effort aboard a Triumph STR765 RS, with support from the British manufacturer.
Sizing up to his rivals for the first time this year at Phillip Island - host of this weekend’s WorldSSP opener in Australia - during a one-day test earlier in the week, Booth-Amos rarely strayed outside the top ten as the highest-placed Triumph rider in ninth, just 0.6s off the top spot.
Though his test would end with a high-speed off at Turn 12, Booth-Amos was unhurt and feels there is strong potential in his Triumph package this weekend.
“Overall we made a big step compared to Jerez so I’m pretty happy with that,” he said. “I’m starting to feel more comfortable with the bike every time I ride it so really on Monday we just worked on the race pace, not really a time attack and it ended up pretty good.
“We did our fastest lap on the old tyre so overall I’m feeling really comfortable and looking forward to the weekend. I think it will be a race of who can manage the tyre the best, obviously Australia is always really hard on the tyre.
“I’m looking forward to it, the team have worked really hard this week so hopefully we can start off how we mean to go on.”
