VALENCIA WSS: CRUTCHLOW TAKES LAST-DITCH POLE

Yamaha Racing's Cal Crutchlow grabbed the World Supersport pole position at Valencia this afternoon with a last-ditch lap with just two minutes of the session left.

The former British Superbike rider had been trailing leader Joan Lascorz by more than half a second until last-minute adjustments enabled the youngster to go just over a tenth faster to lap at 1'35.865.

Parkalgar Honda's Eugene Laverty will start from the head of the fourth row after a crash early on saw him in the pits for 15 minutes. The Irishman came out and despite continually dropping his lap-times, he ended up in 13th, knocked off the third row in the last minute by Crutchlow's team-mate Fabien Foret.

Reigning World Champion Andrew Pitt crashed his 2009 Ten Kate Honda CBR600 twice in the session on his way to ninth on the grid with team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu in 11th.
