Speculation was rife at Silverstone's World Superbike round about whether organiser Paolo Flammini would release any information on rule changes for next year and, if so, what those changes would be.
A meeting between himself, his oppo Poalo Ciabbatti and the teams took place on the Friday but not much information was forthcoming that evening. Saturday was a different matter however. A press conference to formally announce the new Pirelli tyre deal was hijacked and questions were fired at WSB management.
For the most part, the answer to most questions was 'dunno' (but said with a little more flair). However, what could be gleaned was there are plans afoot to switch to a one-bike rule, a la British Superbikes, which will save a cool £250,000 per season.
Teams will be allowed to have one bike and then a rolling chassis in the truck which will have to have an engine etc fitted and a scrutineer sticker switched to it. It makes Superpole a very interesting prospect indeed as it does for BSB qualifying.
There were some grumblings about ditching the qualifying tyres but they are to stay - more than likely to justify the £3000 a weekend every team has to give Pirelli...
