WorldSBK Assen | PICS - van der Mark suffers broken femur in Assen high-side

Michael van der Mark, ROKiT BMW, BMW M 1000 RR, Assen,

Michael van der Mark is facing another protracted stint on the sidelines through injury after suffering a suspected broken femur in a spectacular accident during race two at Assen.

Competing in front of his home crowd, the Dutchman was running just inside the points when he lost the rear of his ROKiT BMW M 1000 RR coming through the flip-flop Geert Timmer chicane.

Flicking him into a lofty high-side, van der Mark came down hard on his leg before spiralling across the grass, the five-time WorldSBK race winner in visible discomfort as he was tended to by medical crews.

After he was eventually stretchered into an ambulance, a trip to the local Assen Hospital has revealed a suspected left femur fracture.

The latest injury is another huge blow for van der Mark who spent a sizable portion of the 2022 WorldSBK season recovering from two separate injuries.

After missing much of testing and the opening round with a broken leg sustained in a cycling accident, a crash during round three in Estoril left him nursing a broken hip, forcing him to miss the next four events.
