Go Eleven’s Chaz Davies was involved in a collision during Sunday’s WorldSBK Superpole race resulting in the Welshman being sent to Barcelona hospital.
Having started 13th, Davies was pushing hard to achieve the all-important top-nine ahead of the final outing before being collected by Lucas Mahias in the turn 11-12 change of direction, after the pair had been battling for position. Both riders were sent into the air fences in the aftermath with Davies requiring medical assistance on track.
After initial checks at the medical centre, the number 7 was transferred to Barcelona hospital for further examination, but remained conscious and communicative throughout. Further updates are expected with Davies suffering from severe intercostal pain on his right side.
“The Superpole Race is spectacular, but today someone had too much enthusiasm, and this time our rider went to the hospital,” Denis Sacchetti, GoEleven Team Manager said on Sunday evening. “Now we hope that the result of the CT scan is negative, Chaz complains of pain in his right side, but at the medical centre he laughed and joked and the first thing he asked was to prepare the bike for Race 2, he wanted to race!
“Now let’s see how he is doing this week and we will evaluate what to do in view of the next round!”
