WorldSBK Donington: Laverty aiming to match Redding

Bonovo action BMW’s Eugene Laverty is heading back to Britain this weekend as WorldSBK sets up at Donington Park.

The Northern Irishman currently resides in Portugal but with the weather set to rival the Algarve, round five will bring a warm welcome back to UK shores for the number 50.

A difficult start to the season finds Laverty 14th in the championship standings with just one top ten finish under his belt in 2022, a situation he’s aiming to rectify this time out.

"Donington has been a strong track for the BMW in recent years and we hope to continue this trend,” Laverty said ahead of his return to the UK. “I am not happy with my performance in the last two rounds, so the goal has to be to get to the same level as Loris [Baz] and Scott [Redding], because they both ride the M 1000 RR very well.

“I have a great crew around me working hard to give me a bike that I can race for 23 laps.

“Northern Ireland is also right behind the water, so I count Donington as a home race. I will do my best to put in a strong performance there in front of my family, friends and supporters!”
