Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlioglu added the WorldSBK Superpole race win to yesterday’s victory at Estoril this morning and set a new lap record for good measure.
The Turkish rider started from pole and never looked back, crossing the line with a two-second lead over GRT Yamaha’s Garrett Gerloff with Michael van der Mark completing the Iwata firm’s first-ever Superbike dpoium lockout
Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) looked set for third place in the race but a fantastic battle with VDM went the way of the Dutchman as the final of the ten laps unfolded, and Davies had to settle for fourth.
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team), from 15th on the grid again, was fifth, and from the back of the grid Scott Redding placed sixth.
Redding had a job to get past the Hondas of Alvaro Bautista (HRC Honda) and Leon Haslam (HRC Honda), as they finally finished seventh and eighth respectively.
Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Team GoEleven Ducati) won the Independent Riders’ championship outright in the sprint race, with his ninth place finish.
Xavi Fores (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was tenth and Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) 11th.
Race two will get underway today at the rescheduled time of 15.15, to allow for the changes to the MotoGP schedule in Aragon.
