Puccetti Kawasaki’s Philipp Oettl continued his strong Jerez form on Saturday morning by stealing WorldSSP pole position in the dying seconds.
Championship leader Dominique Aegerter took charge as the opening shots of WorldSSP Superpole were fired. The Ten Kate Yamaha rider setting a 1’41.834 to lead Friday’s pace setter Oettl and Randy Krummenacher in the times by the halfway stage.
Traffic was very much in play as the session unfolded with many of the big hitters being caught out on hot-laps in the second half. Turn six collecting two riders - Can Öncü and Marc Alcoba - with three minutes to go with Galang Hendra Pratama crashing out moments later at turn 10.
Oettl stole the pole as the chequered flag prepared thanks to a 1’41.798, Bill van Eerde succumbing to the final corner at the session’s climax. A late charge from Motoxracing’s Federico Caricasulo claimed third position, with Aegerter completing the front row from second.
Manuel Gonzalez, Krummenacher and MV Agusta’s Niki Tuuli will start this afternoon from row two ahead of Steven Odendaal, Raffaele de Rosa and Öncü with Stefano Manzi securing a top 10 start on his sabbatical from Moto2 for the GMT94 team.
