CM Racing’s Luca Bernardi claimed the WorldSSP Superpole with a last-minute strike to depose session-battling leaders Dominique Aegerter and Niki Tuuli at Magny-Cours.
MV Agusta’s Tuuli took the dominant shot as qualifying fired up for the supersport class, sitting top with a 1’41.018 before Aegerter took over almost three-tenths clear. Philip Oettl and Federico Caricasulo fighting for the final front row spot at the halfway stage before the action ramped up.
The closing stages saw the pace increase with Valentine Debise claiming the provisional pole thanks to a 1’40.656 effort and six minutes left on track. The lower half of the top-10 running near identical times before Tuuli and Aegerter once again swapped positions at the top.
A steady start to Saturday had seen Jules Cluzel circulating outside of the top four rows until a late strike promoted him to fourth with two-minutes remaining, Manuel Gonzales demoting him with his own late-run moments later before Debise claimed the position in the dying stages.
The final lap saw a stunning strike from Bernardi as the Italian secured the pole, Aegerter and Tuuli completing the front row.
