Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea snatched his sixth straight WorldSBK pole from under the nose of title rival Toprak Razgatlioglu at Most this morning.
The Yamaha rider set a 1’31.751 to bag top spot with his lap on the Pirelli qualifier but Rea had his measure, edging him out by 0.067s with a furious Scott Redding in third after he was caught out by a yellow flag.
The Ducati man lost his potential best lap, then tried to go for a second one on the qualifying tyre that had already given its best.
Redding would even miss out on second starting spot, which went to Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team) who was finally 0.067 seconds behind Rea. Redding starts off the front row but was 0.474 seconds back from Rea’s new track best of 1’31.684.
All-time Superpole great Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) was fourth quickest, with the charging Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha) fifth and the ever-improving Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team) sixth.
The third row will be headed by Leon Haslam (HRC Honda), from Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) and Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team).
Axel Bassani (MotoCorsa Racing Ducati) was tenth, Alvaro Bautista (HRC Honda) 11th and wild card rider Marvin Fritz (IXZ-YART Yamaha) 12th.
