WorldSSP Catalunya Race 2 Results | Sofuoglu legacy wins again as Bahattin leads MV 1-2

Bahattin Sofuoglu has emulated his uncle Kenan Sofuoglu to take a stunning maiden WorldSSP victory in the second race of the weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Fresh from landing his first podium in the opening race, Sofuoglu belied his experienced to prevail in an intense three-way fight with MV Agusta Reparto Corse team-mate Marcel Schroetter and Ten Kate Yamaha's Stefano Manzi.

With the trio swapping positions throughout the 18 lap encounter, Sofuoglu's well-judged slipstream from third into the lead on the run down to Turn 1 on the penultimate lap proved decisive, the 19-year old resisting the close attentions of Manzi to scamper across the line for victory.

Though Manzi got the better of Schroetter on the final revolution, a track limits violation would see him demoted one position to third, allowing the German to reclaim second in the final classification.

It also gives the former Moto2 rider second in the overall standings behind Nicolo Bulega, who suffered his first DNF of the season when he hit technical difficulties in the closing stages. The gap between the Aruba.it Ducati rider and Schroetter now stands at 33 points.

Bulge's retirement lifted Valentin Debise (GMT 94) to fourth place, the Frenchman dicing for the lead early on before fading from the lead group.

Glenn van Straalen (EAB Yamaha) was also a contender early on but would eventually slip back into a busy four-way scrap for what became fifth place, the Dutchman fending off Federico Caricasulo (Althea Ducati), Nicholas Spinelli (VFT Yamaha) and Niki Tuuli, the latter finishing as the highest placed Dynavolt Triumph rider.

Jorge Navarro on the second of the Ten Kate Yamahas led Raffaele de Rosa (Orelac Ducati) across the line to complete the top ten, with Tom Edwards (YART), Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki), Lucas Mahias (Puccetti Kawasaki), top Brit Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo Kawasaki) and Adrian Fernandez (Evan Bros Yamaha) completing the points paying positions.
