WorldSSP Catalunya Race One Results | Bulega claims victory in the opening race in Catalunya

Nicolo Bulega held off fierce attacks from a determined MV Agusta rider to take his fifth World Supersport victory of the season extending his Championship lead.

The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati rider put together a great ride on board his Ducati Panigale V2 machine to claim another World Supersport win. Bulega has been so dominant this season in Supersport and has extended his Championship lead even more.

Second place was taken by former Moto2 rider, Marcel Schrotter (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), who fought hard all race in a three way battle with the other MV Agusta and a Yamaha rider. The German rider is becoming a regular front runner in Supersport now.

After leading some of the race and battling for the podium all race a third place is thoroughly deserved for Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta Reparto Corse). The Turkish rider put together a great ride and showed that the MV Agusta is a very competitive package in World Supersport.

Glenn van Straalen (EAB Racing Team) was the second highest Yamaha around Catalunya as he took his machine to a fourth place finish

Federico Caricasulo (Althea Racing) took his Ducati to a solid fifth place. After qualifying on the front row it was obvious to see that the Italian did not have the race pace for the podium.

Stefano Manzi (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) finished in sixth place on his Yamaha after fighting hard against Sofuoglu. The Italian rider made contact with Sofuoglu multiple times on the final lap in a fierce scrap. Manzi may have crossed the line in fourth but got demoted to sixth place after being given a time penalty after the race.

Jorge Navarro (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) finished the race in seventh place. The Spanish rider still has another step to take before he is a competitive top five fighter every week.

Valentin Debise (GMT94 Yamaha) was fighting for the podium early on in the race. However as the race went on Debise dropped back and finished eighth place in the end. Nicholas Spinelli (VFT Racing) finished the race in ninth place and put together a decent showing around Catalunya.

Niki Tuuli (Dynavolt Triumph) crossed the line to round out the top ten as he finished in tenth place. The Triumph rider has had a decent weekend and scored some good points in Race One.

The British riders in World Supersport had a rough day at the office. Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo ME AIR Racing) finished 13th place today. John McPhee (Vince64 by Puccetti Racing) scored no points today and could only manage 19th place.

Harry Truelove (Dynavolt Triumph) was not the lowest British rider today and took his Triumph to 24th place. However, Tarran Mackenzie (Petronas MIE Honda Team) did not have a good day at the office and finished dead last in 27th place.
