Ruben Xaus learnt his lesson from the first race at Misano, which saw his tyres go off after a fast start, holding back until the last few laps before showing his real pace and carving though to the front.
After an early red flag and a delayed restart to the race, caused by oil on turn one from Muggeridge's Honda, it looked set to be a form-book run, with Bayliss and Corser disputing the lead. But both Xaus and Sterilgarda Ducati team-mate Biaggi made late charges, eventually giving the team a one-two finish as both the early leaders dropped back.
Corser and Bayliss showed signs that they were struggling towards the end with a lack of grip, suffering identical near-crashes, with both riders managing heroic saves. But the lost time meant the two Sterilgarda machines were able to get away at the front in the closing laps.
It was just deserves for Xaus, who showed dominant pace in race one only to drop back in the field as his grip evaporated during the closing laps. Bayliss rounded out the podium but couldn't catch Xaus and Biaggi after a massive rear-end slide nearly left him the gravel, while Corser lost out more after a similar slide saw him running though the gravel trap, dropping him to fifth at the flag.
