WSBK Lausitz: German track is all about the brakes says Hayden

Nicky Hayden believes he needs to find more consistency on the brakes ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying and first World Superbike race of the weekend at Lausitzring.

The Honda rider ended the day with the fifth fastest time, and is hoping to continue the momentum into tomorrow.

Having taken a third place at his home round of Laguna Seca back in July, he hopes the brake issues which struck in the USA won’t come into play this weekend, particularly as the German track is all about the brakes.

“Great to be back, back with the team, back on a bike and things went fairly smooth,” said the Kentucky rider after today’s second session. “We had a good setup here but we had a different tyre, a couple of different tyres, than we had for the test so we needed to try those.

“We made some improvements, we can see the lap time is really, really close so we just need to try and calm the bike down a little bit in braking.

“On our bike, to make the lap time you’ve got to do it on the brakes and this track with the bumps, it’s easy to make mistakes so I wasn’t as consistent as I wanted to be but yeah, good day, we’re back, and tomorrow we get to go racing so let’s see.”
