Jake Dixon was refusing to let his emotions get the better of him after multiple run-ins with the same rider spoiled what was shaping up to be a lucrative Indian Moto2 result.

The British rider notched up a surprise second pole position of the season after capitalising on sketchy conditions in Q2 to upset pre-session favourite Pedro Acosta.

Coming after he suffered a heavy fall in the earlier Practice 3 session, Dixon came into the inaugural Indian event at the Buddh International Circuit eyeing up a strong result that would keep him in distant contention for the title.

Instead, however, he found himself on the receiving end of two errant lunges by SpeedUp Racing’s Alonso Lopez at Turn 1, during both the original get away and then also the restart.

With the latter incident forcing Dixon down to fourth after running wide at Turn 1, the GasGas Aspar rider’s attempts to respond with a pass on Lopez into Turn 4 instead scuppered his momentum on the exit, dropping him to sixth.

Worse was to follow for Dixon, however, on lap three when he overtook Lopez, only to then collide with the Spaniard when they met on the apex, sending both riders down. Though Dixon remounted at the back of the field, his race lasted just two more laps before crashing a second time at Turn 12.

With Moto2 Championship leader Acosta going on to win again to extend his advantage at the top of the table, it means Dixon has slipped 90 points behind the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider. 

“I have made two great starts, but in the second one I have lost positions because I have had to go out of the line. I have tried to move up on the first lap and when I have overtaken Alonso López, I have stopped the bike well, but I have ended up on the ground. 

A second DNF in five races, with Dixon making headlines at Silverstone with a fiery outburst targeted at Darryn Binder following a lap one clash, the Kent rider admitted to keeping his emotions in check on this occasion.

“These things happen. I'm still learning to control myself in these moments and I will not say much more about it. I have a great team, they give everything for me and I will keep fighting for them.”
