It had taken four Grands Prix for Fermin Aldeguer to take his first Moto2 pole position of 2024 on Saturday, and on Sunday in Jerez Aldeguer scored his first Moto2 victory of the season at the fourth round of the year.
Manuel Gonzalez made an unlikely holeshot from fourth on the grid, and led for the first six laps. In that time, he, Aldeguer, and championship leader Sergio Garcia escaped at the front, but on lap seven Gonzalez’ time at the front was over.

Aldeguer came through at turn five, and completed the move at turn eight. Consistent pace from there was enough to take the #54 to a commanding first win of the season.
The race for the lead might have been more interesting down the stretch had Joe Roberts qualified better than 11th. The American, who has never been especially strong at Jerez, was the only rider with pace that was comparable to Aldeguer in the second half of the race, and he used that to chase down the podium. On lap 13, he passed Garcia for third, and then he overtook Gonzalez for second on lap 19. There was no time to think about Aldeguer, but Roberts’ third second place in succession took him to the top of the championship standings.

Gonzalez held on for third place after Roberts passed him, and he was under no pressure from behind: 4.658 seconds separated him from fourth-placed Sergio Garcia at the flag.
Albert Arenas made it a double-top-five for Gresini, ahead of Ai Ogura, Tony Arbolino, Jeremy Alcoba, Celestino Vietti, and Somkiat Chantra who completed the top 10.
Aron Canet did not start the race after breaking his ankle on Friday, and Ayumu Sasaki was declared unfit on Sunday morning.
