The latest news regarding Jorge Martin's recovery has increased his hopes of racing in Qatar.
Jorge Martin underwent assessments with Dr Xavier Mir on Tuesday as an early baseline for whether he would be able to participate in the Qatar Grand Prix.
The 2024 MotoGP World Champion has missed the opening three rounds of the 2025 season. Martin has been recovering from a hand injury that he sustained in testing days before the first race of the season.
After not being in the paddock in Thailand or Argentina, Martin made an appearance at the Circuit of the Americas. Whilst he was at the Grand Prix of the Americas, he made it clear that he intends to race at the Qatar Grand Prix.
Qatar will host the fourth Grand Prix of the 2025 season on 11-13 April.
Positive signs for Jorge Martin's Qatar Grand Prix return:
Aprilia confirmed on Wednesday: "Jorge Martin underwent an X-ray follow-up yesterday; the evaluation is positive as a bone callus is clearly visible at the level of the scaphoid fracture.
"The synthesis screw is well positioned and tolerated, confirming the expected and correct outcome of the surgery."
Dr Xavier Mir told Motorsport: "The clinical and radiological examination of Jorge Martín's scaphoid, radius and pyramidal fractures show a good evolution that allows us to start a new stage in functional recovery, to arrive in Qatar and see what feelings the rider has in order to be able to participate in the grand prix, always after passing through MotoGP medical control."
Martin has been given the green light to increase his training ahead of his MotoGP return. However, he has admitted that he will not test any other type of motorcycle before officially returning to MotoGP.
Since leaving Ducati, Martin has had very minimal time on the Aprilia RS-GP. He was able to test his new machine for one day at the Barcelona Test at the conclusion of the 2024 season.
However, he suffered multiple highsides on day one of the Sepang MotoGP Test and was declared unfit for the remainder of pre-season testing.
Aprilia had proposed a rule change to allow Martin to test a MotoGP bike before making his return. However, this idea did not receive unanimous agreement from all manufacturers, so it will not take place.
