Marc Marquez discusses his 'unexpected' Sprint win in Qatar

Gold & Goose

For the fourth time in the 2025 MotoGP Championship, Marc Marquez was victorious in Saturday's Sprint Race.

Coming into the Qatar Grand Prix, it was expected that more riders would be able to fight with Marc Marquez as his win rate at the Lusail International Circuit has been lower than most circuits.

However, Marquez proved in Saturday's Sprint Race that he is still the dominant force in MotoGP despite his crash at the Grand Prix of the Americas.

After claiming pole position in qualifying, he was set up for the start of another unbelievable weekend.

In the opening laps of the Sprint Race, it looked as though Marc Marquez would have a head-to-head battle with his younger brother, Alex Marquez.

However, once again, Marc proved to have more in his back pocket than Alex, just as he did in Thailand and Argentina.

Marc Marquez ended up winning the Qatar Sprint race by 1.5 seconds and kept his unbeaten Sprint Race run going as he has now won four Sprint Races in a row.

"At the moment we have the same performance as the first part of the season, ok Austin was Austin and we made a mistake," Marquez said after the Sprint Race.

"The feeling was good, it has been an unexpected weekend, honestly. Because, as you know, here in Qatar, I normally struggle, but I am riding in a very good way. I was very consistent, and I controlled the gap. In the last two laps, I slowed down. But I feel good, very good, with the bike.

"Tomorrow, let's see if we can improve some very small things just for the race distance. The feeling was great. Alex attacked me in the first laps, but I knew that my rhythm was a bit better. Just on the first two laps, I was not ready to attack, but tomorrow we will try to manage in a different way.

This Sprint Race victory at the Lusail International Circuit also allowed Marc Marquez to regain the World Championship lead from his brother.
