The Italian World Superbike Round was dominated by Nicolo Bulega as he claimed his second hat-trick in the class.
Nicolo Bulega increased his win tally to seven at the Italian World Superbike Round as he claimed an important hat-trick of victories.
After suffering two DNFs at the Dutch World Superbike Round, the Championship leader came to his home round with a point to prove.
Despite early pressure, Bulega was able to beat his main title rival, Toprak Razgatlioglu, in all three races around the Cremona Circuit.
"If someone had told me a few days ago that I’d win three races at Cremona, I wouldn’t have believed them," Bulega told WorldSBK.com after the Italian World Superbike Round.
"It’s incredible to have a hat-trick here at my worst track. It’s something out of my head. Thanks to all the Italian fans that came here to support us, and all the Ducati guys. It’s very nice to win here in Italy."
Bulega has also claimed that the Cremona Circuit is his worst track on the calendar, so he is surprised that his second World Superbike hat-trick was achieved there.
But going into the Czech Republic Round, he believes that Razgatlioglu will give him more of a challenge at Most as it's one of the Turkish rider's favourite tracks.
"This is my worst track, and I still can’t believe I did a hat-trick at Cremona," Bulega explained.
"At the start of the season, I was thinking, ‘I don’t want to go to Cremona’, and now I love the circuit!
"It’s incredible. I’ll try to do the same every time I come here. Toprak is always very strong at Most; I think it’s one of his favourite tracks.
"I don’t have a plan, just to give 100% and try to beat him; if I can’t beat him, try to stay very close."
After four rounds Bulega still controls the World Superbike Championship, and has extended his lead over Razgatlioglu to 34 points.
