Sam Lowes comments on his 'positive weekend' in the Czech Republic

Gold & Goose

Despite missing out on a podium, Sam Lowes is happy with his weekend in the Czech Republic.

At the Autodrom Most in 2024, Sam Lowes' rookie World Superbike season ran into difficulties as he crashed and injured his shoulder.

However, his fortunes in the Czech Republic were higher in 2025 as he finished sixth, fourth and fourth across the three races.

The British rider was close to a podium in the Superpole Race and Race Two, but fell short of being able to beat Danilo Petrucci.

"Starting a bit further forward after the Superpole Race was good," Lowes told WorldSBK.com.

"We got away on the first lap behind Toprak [Razgatlioglu] and [Nicolo] Bulega. But their pace was impressive, so I just tried to settle into a nice rhythm, which was quite a bit quicker than yesterday [Saturday].

"Obviously, I knew I had [Danilo] Petrucci behind me for quite a while, then he passed me midrace, but I was staying with him. We had a similar pace; he was stronger in the first half of the lap, and I was slightly stronger in the second half.

"I really dug in to try and get back to him at the end of the race. Also in the Superpole Race, it was close at the line, I think it was 0.1, and in the last race it was 0.2.

"It could have been a better Sunday, but coming here after crashing here last year, it has been a really good weekend. The layout of the track and how to ride the bike here is something I really need to work on. It highlighted parts of my riding style that I need to work on, but overall it was a positive weekend."

Lowes is in his best form in the World Superbike paddock and finds himself sixth in the Championship standings. He now has a month break before the next round of the season at Misano, a circuit he knows better from his years racing in Grand Prix.

"I think it is good timing to find this form," Lowes explained.

"Everything is in a positive way, I am really happy for the team and for the improvement over the winter and into this year. Everyone knows how good the Ducati is, so we are lucky for that, but we still have to do the job.

"I am happy to be fighting with Petrucci and these guys, they have a couple more years of experience than me on a Superbike. But I know the next track a bit better with it being Misano, so I would like to take another step forward."
